April Heroes
Students at Delmarva schools saved more lives in April than any other month this year!
Thank you to the 1,487 blood donors who rolled up their sleeves last month. This is 295 more than last April. Thanks to your efforts, thousands of patients at area hospitals were given a second chance!

Delcastle dedicates blood drive
Delcastle High School students consistently show up in large numbers to support their blood drive. Last month they had an extra special reason to donate. They dedicated their blood drive to a 2007 Delcastle alumna who is currently on the heart transplant list. Jasmine, who donated blood and graduated last year, recently experienced heart failure and is now waiting for a new heart. Blood transfusions are an important part of any organ transplant surgery. These procedures require many units of red cells and other blood components. Delcastle advisor, Peg Enslen, and the Medical Assisting students decided it would be a great idea to spread the word about the importance of giving blood by sharing Jasmine's story. Thank you Delcastle for another job well done!

Creativity at Concord
To promote their blood drive, the creative students at Concord High School decorated the ceiling outside the gym. Each student who signed up to save lives had their name written on a red blood drop, which was hung from the ceiling. Great idea-- and thank you to the Leader Corps students who sponsored the blood drive!
Breakfast for Blood Donors
It's very important for blood donors to eat within three hours of donating. Many schools, including Pocomoke High School, provide a delicious morning meal. The wonderful aroma of eggs, sausage, bacon, and homemade sticky buns was noticable as soon as the school's doors opened! Blood Drive Advisor Leslie Thomas and her students are excellent cooks! Thanks for feeding the hungry blood donors and helping to ensure a successful blood drive.
