Summer Blood Challenge Delmarva employers take part in a friendly competition to save lives and prevent summer blood shortages. To "level the playing field," participating employers are grouped by size and participants earn points. Those organizations with the most points at the end of the Challenge receive awards. August is a busy month. With it come hot days, busy back-to-school shopping and, in our neck of the woods...lots of blood donation! As we said in last week's e-newsletter, many employers have taken on the challenge of hosting on-site drives. We thank you for your support! While the August calendar for on-site drives is now full, there's still time if you want to adopt a week! Please contact your account executive if you want to organize a campaign at your business. It's crunch time! With less than one month to go, every point counts! We will soon be keeping the point totals a secret until the day after the awards are presented to the winners! Be sure to look carefully at the current totals posted on the Blood Bank's website. The August 19 e-newsletter will be the last time you will see current totals, because after that we are keeping them under wraps! So take a look now to see where you stand. As of Saturday, August 2, there are a total of 3929 points in the blood donor column! THANK YOU to everyone who has given blood this summer. Many lives have been saved because of the blood donations from you and your co-workers. That is an incredible achievement! You are truly heroes in the best sense of the word. Donate a second time this summer! Remember, if you are a whole blood donor who gave blood before July 6, you can donate again before the end of the Summer Blood Challenge (56 days between donations) and earn another point for your organization, as well as another chance to win some great prizes, such as the weekly gas cards as well as the grand prize of a $500 gas card and a cruise to the destination of your choice ($2000 value). The State of Delaware is well represented this week in the Summer Blood Challenge. The Office of Management and Budget and Department of Technology and Information have adopted this week to encourage their employees to give blood at Blood Bank of Delmarva centers and mobile locations. We appreciate their support!
